How it works
Our sow Lucy has given birth to 13 piglets, which are now 4 weeks old. The piglets are due to be sold as weaners at 8 weeks old, but if enough people sign up for a share, we will keep back one or more and raise them on our farm.
One share costs £40*, and could give you:
- 2 roasting joints, 4 packs sausages, 4 packs bacon, or
- 8 loin steaks, 4 packs of mince, 1 gammon joint, 3 packs diced pork, or
- 2 tenderloins, 4 packs of pork stir fry, 1 roasting joint, 6 pork & apple burgers, or
- 2 packs BBQ ribs, 4 packs sausages, 5 pork chops, 1 roasting joint, 2 packs bacon, or
- whatever combination you choose…
The possibilities are almost endless – you decide how you want to make up your share!
The meat will be delivered to you directly from the butcher, and it will be vacuum packed and ready for your freezer.
* There is a small extra charge to cover the cost of making sausages and curing bacon, if you choose to have those

Frequently asked questions
Who can join the pig club?
Anyone can join, and it is free! All we ask is that you become a member of Futurefarms if you are not already, at an annual cost of £8 (free for volunteers).
Is there any obligation to buy?
No! We expect to have piglets available twice a year. We will let you know when the piglets are born, and you can decide if you want to opt in or out each time.
How do you decide who gets which cut?
Some cuts are more in demand than others, so you need to get your order in promptly to make sure you get your first choice. Fortunately, everyone likes different things, so it is usually possible to satisfy everyone.
How much meat will I get?
One share is one-eighth of a pig. That means that a share is generally around 6kg of meat, but could be slightly more or less, depending on the size of the pig.
What about smaller or larger quantities?
Discounts are available if you want 2 or more shares (or half a pig). Half shares are also possible if a whole share is too much for you. Please ask for more details.
How about gluten free?
We can arrange for the sausages and burgers to be made to a gluten free recipe.
Shouldn’t we be eating less meat to help the climate?
Whether or not you eat meat is up to you, but if you do, pork is a good choice for the planet – on average pork has only about a quarter of the climate impact when compared to beef. (See https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-46459714)
Did you know?
Our new Pig Club is reminiscent of the Pig Clubs that were set up in the 1940s to help provide food when supplies were short during the war. Many villages (including Martin!) had their own Pig Club. The members of the club would buy a piglet, and share feeding duties to raise the pig until it was ready for slaughter. The meat was then divided between club members.

The Martin Pig Club is mentioned in Fred Symes’ wartime memoir, which you can read on the Martin Village Archive here:
